Acidity is a condition which can defined as when gastric glands of the stomach start to produce more acids than required. Hydrochloric acid is required for the digestion and break down of foods we eat. If this required is produced more than necessary amount, then from stomach the extra gastric juices move to the esophagus lower part and effect seriously the stomach inner lining or this lower part of esophagus. And the condition it leads to is acidity or acidic stomach.

Neutral pH is 7 and human body normally has this level and with in the body the balance of alkaline / acidity may vary. Arterial blood has a pH of about 7.35 to 7.45 and for saliva it is 6 to 7.4. Stomach in nature is very acidic with a pH level of 2. Lack of body movements and poor diets habits usually leads to acidity.

     The stomach cells produce HCL which and it is a cause of acidity. But this also provide defense from microbes found in food and can cause disease and can not survive in this acidic nature of stomach. But pepsin an enzyme which helps in breaking down of proteins to be digested easily can only survive in the pH of stomach and in high pH cannot exist and result in indigestion.

If someone has acidity and not treated on time then it can lead to serious problems like esophageal cancer, arthritis, tomach gas, indigestion, gout, and the the formation of ulcer in body either in stomach inner walls or mouth. Once the acidity occur then gastric juices move to the food pipe or lower esophagus from stomach and results in dysfunctional.

1. (Ginger).

Because of its alkalizing nature ginger is a best remedy to treat acidity. The measuring scale of pH is 0 to 14 and for normal body it remains between 7.35 to 7.45.

When you suffer from acidity the acid of the stomach then reflus to the esophagus which is a cause of inflammation and irritation in it. Ginger a spice or a herb taking it help to stimulate the saliva production and cure acidity by washing the acid refluxed into the esophagus.

To quickly cure acidity the ginger recipies are below.

Method – 1: (Ginger Tea)

Ingredients:

  • 1 inch piece of fresh ginger root.
  • One cup water hot or warm.
  • Lemon juice or honey (its optional) – 1 to 2 tablespoon.
  • And a strainer

Process:

  • Take and wash thoroughly a ginger root.
  • Cut into slices after peeling it.
  • Take these ginger slices and place them in a pot.
  • Now take hot water and pour over ginger slices in pot.
  • Let it steep for 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Using sieve strain the tea in a cup.
  • Add lemon juice or honey to this and ginger tea is ready.
  • Drinking 2 to 3 times a day this ginger will give you best results.
  • To get rid of acidity you can use ginger regularly in different methods like ginger candies, ginger ale, use it in cooking or take a fresh piece of raw ginger and chew it.

Method – 2: (Ginger Powder)

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon ginger powder
  • Asafetida a pinch
  • One cup water
  • Rock salt a pinch

Process:

  • Add asafetida, rock salt, and ginger powder to water.
  • To get relief from acidity use this solution stir it well and drink.
  • you will get quick relief from acidity by taking this ginger powder solution. So when you suffer from acidity follow this process.
  • Or take a spoonful of ginger juice 2 to 3 times everyday will keep the stomach problems and acidity away.

Method – 3: (Ginger with Ground Coriander Tea)

If the cause of the acidity is over eating of certain foods occasionally then in Ayurveda it is believed that you can get rid from it by hot brewed tea made of ground coriander and fresh ginger.

Ingredients:

  • 2 teaspoon freshly ground ginger
  • 1/2 tablespoon Ground coriander powder
  • 8 oz hot water
  • Disposable tea bag

Process:

  • Take disposable tea bag and pour freshly ground ginger in it.
  • Take hot water and place this tea bag filled with ginger in it.
  • For about 5 to 6 minutes allow it to steep.
  • Now take it out and discard the tea bag after squeezing it.
  • Take ground coriander powder and add to this cup.
  • Let the coriander and the ginger combine in tea by mixing it well.
  • Cool it down for few minutes to the room temperature.
  • When you feel the problem of acidity drink this coriander ginger tree.
  • You can store this tea in refrigerator for about 96 hours if you make in large quantity for next time use to relief from acidity.
  • To get relief from acidity and its discomforts drink this ground coriander and ginger tea regularly.

2. (Carom Seeds).

One of the best remedy for digestion and stomach related problem and acidity is carom seeds. they have best carminative and digestive properties which helps to improve the digestion and prevent gastro-intestinal problems.

These Ajwain or Bishop’s weed or carom seeds helps digestive enzymes by boosting its activity and reduce the food digestion transmit time and in turn prevent acidity. Carom seeds can also be used directly to prevent many digestive problems and acidity.

Below are few methods to use carom seeds for scidity treatment.

Method – 1: (Carom Seeds with Water)

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon Carom seeds
  • 1 glass Water

Process:

  • Take carom seeds place them in the palm of left hand.
  • Then press or crush the seeds with the right hand thumb finger or palm of right hand.
  • By doing this process you will notice the release of oil from carom seeds.
  • Now take this into mouth directly and then followed by water.
  • Or take this with water by placing them in water and stir it well.
  • To get rid of acidity follow this remedy regularly.

Method – 2: (Carom Seeds with Lemon and Ginger Juice)

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon – Carom seeds
  • Few drops – Lemon juice
  • Few drops – Ginger juice

Process:

  • Take carom seeds and place in a small bowl.
  • Take ginger juice and lemon juice and add to it.
  • Stir it well and the mixture is ready.
  • When you have acidity consume this mixture to get rid from acidity.

Method – 3: (Carom Seeds)

Ingredient:

  • Carom seeds

Process:

  • Place some carom seeds in your mouth.
  • After completing your meal chew them thoroughly.
  • Carom seeds have a strong peppery and bitter taste if you can withstand with this this method is especially for you.
  • After completing the meal repeat this process regularly until you get rid from acidity.

Method – 4: (Ajwain Ark with Water)

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon – Ajwain Ark
  • Half cup – Water

Process:

  • Take and place Ajwain ark in a glass.
  • Stir it well after pouring water over it.
  • After taking meal consume this drink
  • You will get relief in few minutes by using this process.
  • To get rid of acidity completely follow this remedy regularly and drink after meal.

Method – 5: (Omam with Water)

If you can get omam liquid then this process is usefull for you. This is mostly available in some Arabian countries, Srilanka, Malaysia, and also available in south India.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon – Omam liquid
  • Half glass – Water

Process:

  • Take water and add  omam liquid into it.
  • Stir it well and drink this water.
  • Drink this water after stirring it well.
  • Follow this remedy of oman water regularly to get rid of acidity.

Method – 6: (Omam Water for Instant Relief)

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon – Omam water
  • 1 tablespoon – Cumin seeds
  • 1 glass – Water
  • Pan

Process:

  • Take water and pour in a pan.
  • Then take cumin seeds and omam water and add to it.
  • Put this on stove or flame after stirring it well.
  • Boil it for 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and leave it for few minutes to cool down.
  • To get rid from acidity take this.
  • when you feel any acidity take this mixture.

Method – 7: (Carom Seeds with Rock Salt)

Ingredients:

  • 3 – 6 teaspoon – Carom seeds
  • 3 – 6 teaspoon Rock salt
  • Glass jar or airtight container
  • 1 cup – Warm water

Process:

  • Take rock salt and in same quantity carom seeds.
  • Make a powder of it by grinding them properly in a grinder.
  • Take an airtight container and put and store mixture into it.
  • Add this powder  1/4 to 1/2 table spoon in warm water.
  • Consume after mixing it well to get rid of acidity.
  • Drink this 2 to 3 times daily to get best results.
  • Or if you want use can use a pinch of this without mixing to water water.
  • To scale back the acidity attack and other digestive problems regularly follow this remedy of rock salt and carom seeds.

3. (Buttermilk).

If you remember the traditional buttermilk, after churning butter out of cultured cream the liquid left behind is traditional buttermilk. and this is an best remedy to treat acidity.

Lactic acid in buttermilk is helpful to neutralize acid reflux or acidity in the stomach. It is a nutritional drink because it contains traces of phosphorous, lot of vitamin, potassium and calcium. This is a natural drink which prevent acidity and most digestive problems because it soothes the stomach. To cure the problem completely by enhancing the digestive  properties you can include other ingredients like sea salt, curry leaves, coriander leaves, ginger and asafetida.

Method – 1: (Buttermilk with Fenugreek Seeds)

Ingredients:

  • 1 glass – Buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon – Fenugreek seeds
  • Water

Process:

  • Take fenugreek seeds and make paste by placing them in mortar.
  • Take little bit of water add to it and crush them finely.
  • When it become like a paste add this to buttermilk.
  • Stir it well to get rid from acidity drink this mixture of buttermilk and fenugreek.

Method – 2: (Buttermilk with Lemon or Vinegar)

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup – Buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon – lemon juice or vinegar

Process:

  • Take lemon juice or vinegar and add this to buttermilk.
  • Let it sit after mixing well leave aside for 5 to 7 minutes.
  • To clear the acidity in stomach drink the buttermilk.

Method – 3: (Buttermilk with Black Pepper Powder)

Ingredients:

  • 1 glass – Buttermilk
  • powder of black pepper

Process:

  • Black pepper powder take reasonable amount.
  • Mix it well after adding it to buttermilk.

Method – 4: (Buttermilk with Cumin Seeds and Rock Salt)

Ingredients:

  • 1 glass – Buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon – cumin seeds powder dry roasted
  • A pinch – black salt or rock salt

Process:

  • Take dry-roasted cumin-seeds-powder.
  • Take buttermilk and add this to it also add a pinch – black salt or rock salt to it.
  • To treat acidity stir this buttermilk well and then drink it.

Method – 5: (Buttermilk with Coriander Leaf Juice)

Ingredients:

  • 1 glass – Buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon – Coriander leaves juice

4. (Fennel).

The after meal, chewing of fennel seeds tradition you will find in India it is helpful for better and proper digestion and also prevent digestion related problems indigestion or upset stomach, heartburn, gas or flatulence, bloating, constipation, and acidity.

The carminative property of fennel helps to soothe the digestive tract and thus reduces the inflammation, acid, bloating and gas in the stomach intestinal tract.   • For few minutes boil this and then for few minutes simmer it.

6. (Watermelon).

The people facing the problem of acidity can get the foods which have low acid levels. Also remember the if the pH level of a food is low then it is more acidic than the food which has high pH. Now the pH level of melon is 9 which makes it more alkaline in nature, eating alkaline foods are more useful for the organs, tissues and cells in the body.

In 2011 a study was conducted and it was proved it it in it 20 members with the problem of acidity and reflux strictly followed low acid diet and said that they got 95% improvement in their problem.   • Watermelon

7. (Cumin Seeds)

Umbelliferae family generally cumin seeds belongs to it, and more dill and chervil, caraway seeds, parsley. All these seeds are rich in iron, manganese and other minerals and vitamins and widely used by people in many countries like Spanish, Mexican, Indian and Middle Eastern areas.

Ingredients:

  • -Cumin seeds-
  • -Buttermilk or water-
  • -Strainer (its optional to use it)-

  • Dry roast some cumin seeds for few minutes and when it become properly roasted you will get aroma.
  • Take 1 tablespoon of this roasted dry cumin seeds and place in a mortar and pestle.
  • After slightly crushing this roasted cumin seeds pour into buttermilk or water.
  • Or by using a juicer you can crush the roasted cumin seeds along with buttermilk or water.
  • It is optional if you want to strain it or leave the cumin seeds in water or buttermilk.
  • Stir if well and after completing your meal drink it.
  • To use later take an airtight container for storing the roasted cumin seeds which is remaining.

Method – 3: (Cumin Seeds)

Ingredient:

  • -Raw cumin-seeds-

Process:

  • Place raw cumin seeds a pinch full in your mouth.

8. (Banana)

Banana is among one of the fruits which can treat acidity. As a rich source of potassium banana is an alkalizing mineral with a pH of 14. Consuming ripe banana will rise the pH level of stomach and thus will reduce acidity.

Besides this certain chemical found in banana helps in stomach lining to stimulate to produce high quantity of mucus and it will prevent the problem of stomach ulcers by protecting stomach from acids.   • Take a mortar and pestle and place some coriander leaves in it.
  • Add some water to it and then crush them finely.
  • Use these crushed coriander leaves and extract its juice.
  • The take butter milk and add 1 teaspoon juice of this crushed coriander leaves.
  • Mix it well and after meal drink this mixture of buttermilk and crushed coriander leaves juice.
  • As long as the acidity remains follow this remedy 2 to 3 times a day.
  • Or you can use the crushed coriander leaves juice without buttermilk mixing.

Method – 2: (Coriander Seeds Tea)

Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon – Coriander seeds
  • 1 cup – Hot water
  • -Honey-
  • -Pot-

Process:

  • First proper crush some coriander seeds.
  • Then take a pot and place these properly crushed coriander seeds in it.
  • Then take some hot water and pour over these crushed coriander seeds.
  • Leave it for 5 to 10 minutes to steep.
  • If you want you can add some honey to it after straining.
  • Stir it well and two times a day after meals drink this tea.
  • Adding honey is optional you can even drink it without it.
  • Follow this remedy until you level the acidity in your body.

10. (Lemon Juice).

As you well know that  lemon juice is a natural antacid. Citric acid in lemon is helpful in changing internal environment to alkaline from acidic and finally the acidity is gone.

You may be thinking that lemon juice has acidic nature so how it become alkaline? The answer is simple that in its natural form lemon is considered acidic it has a pH below 7. But it completely metabolized when it goes inside the body to dissociate all its minerals in the bloodstream and then it become alkalizing and raise the blood and body pH 7. This how its acidic nature makes them alkaline.
